Output valued at ₹1,000/kg for the prebiotic fraction and ₹250/kg for the material fraction — both held below published global benchmarks (food-grade oligosaccharide ~US$15/kg, industrial performance material ~US$5/kg) so the tool understates rather than flatters the opportunity.
Most residue in India stops at Tier 1. Every tier above it is the same material, separated further — which is why treating biomass purely as fuel leaves most of its value in the field.
The tier structure follows the biomass value pyramid (or biocascading) framework established in the bioeconomy literature, which ranks biomass uses from pharmaceuticals and fine chemicals at the top through food, materials and chemicals, down to energy — on the principle that value per unit rises as recoverable volume falls. Higher tiers also carry higher processing cost, tighter specifications and longer qualification cycles: the ladder shows where value sits, not how easily it is reached. See references below.

Because the comparison is between an energy product and a materials product. Residue burned for heat is valued for its calorific content. The same biomass contains specific molecular structures that specialty markets value for function, not for energy. The gap between those two valuations is the entire thesis of the biorefinery sector.
No — and it is important to be clear about that. The figure shown is gross molecular value before conversion cost, capital expenditure, processing losses and commercial discount. It indicates the size of the prize, not the profit. Real economics depend entirely on process efficiency and route to market.
Corn cob carries roughly 32% xylan on a dry-matter basis, against about 27% for bagasse, 26% for wheat straw and 21% for rice straw. It is also denser and aggregates more easily than loose straw, which reduces collection and transport cost per tonne.
